About Us

The Stanton General Store is a neighborhood pizzeria and restaurant that specializes in Italian style entrees.  Built in 1837 to provide local residents with easy access to household and agricultural necessities, it became the Stanton General Store around 1900. For generations, the oversize black letters on the side of the building, declaring it “The Biggest Little Store in the County” were a local landmark.

The store’s location in the center of a rolling country crossroads makes it a popular pit stop for bicyclists. It’s also a longtime mainstay on the Stanton Holly Trail, an annual holiday tour of homes the first Saturday in December that benefits the Stanton Reformed Church and the Hunterdon Medical Center Foundation. The store provides an authentic relaxing atmosphere allowing customers to choose between dining in the interior dining room, with its original wide-board floors and exposed beams, or outdoors on the terrace in the warmer months.

Patrons who frequented the General Store prior to its 2010 renovations for milk and eggs may remember that it lacked one necessity we find essential in today’s economy: an indoor restroom.  Prior to 2010, customers and staff alike had to use an outhouse.  Thankfully Patrons no longer have to travel outside to use restroom facilities as we have added interior bathroom facilities to accommodate everyone during the cold winters and rainy afternoons.

The Stanton General Store has historic ties to the local community and provides us with an opportunity to serve local residents providing the perfect spot for a casual, relaxing, quality, affordable meal with the whole family.  The Stanton General Store offers delicious sandwiches, salads, pizza and sit-down-dinner options serving classic Italian entrees such as Lasagna, Ravioli, and Chicken Parmigiana.  During brunch hours, beginning at 9 a.m. on Sundays, the store even serves breakfast pizza — with ham, eggs, bacon, and sausage. We also offer catering packages to suit any occasion – office luncheons, birthday parties, and any other event.

In October 2010, Jeffrey Berner began operating as General Manager of The Stanton General Store and in June 2013 he acquired the business from it's previous owner.  Many in Hunterdon County may already know Jeff from his years managing his family’s delicatessen The All American Hero, previously located on Route 31 in Flemington.

The Berner’s thank you for your patronage and are proud to continue to serve the local community as a family owned and operated establishment.Whether you live nearby and are looking for somewhere to pick up a pizza on the way home from work, are driving through town and want to grab a quick bite to eat, or are looking for a place to catch up with friends over a good meal, come see us at The Stanton General Store.
